“Mriya” Ukrainian School in Halifax is a vibrant Saturday school dedicated to preserving Ukrainian language, culture, and heritage for children in Nova Scotia. Operated by the Ukrainian Canadian Congress – Nova Scotia Branch, Mriya has grown from a small Ukrainian reading club founded in 2021 into a full-fledged weekend community school by 2025.
Today, over 70 children attend “Mriya” Ukrainian School, learning in a warm, supportive, and culturally rich environment. The school offers three grade levels and welcomes children from Ukrainian families and the wider community who are interested in Ukrainian culture and education.
Classes are held every Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, with additional after-school activities. The core curriculum includes Ukrainian Language, History of Ukraine, Art, and Actor Performance, helping students develop both academic knowledge and creative expression.
“Mriya” Ukrainian School also offers engaging master classes, such as Ukrainian baking, stop-motion animation, and other hands-on cultural workshops that make learning interactive and fun.
As a Ukrainian Saturday school in Halifax, Mriya plays an important role in strengthening the Ukrainian-Canadian community, supporting cultural identity, and creating a welcoming space where children can learn, grow, and dream together.
